Angry teacher puts a gun to student’s head in Ludhiana

Mangalore Today News Network

Chandigarh, August 11, 2014: In a shocking incident, the parents of a boy have alleged that their son was mercilessly beaten up by his teacher who also put a gun to his head.

The trauma for Gautam Rajput, a Class VIII student, did not end there as the teacher, Bhupinder Singh, sent him back home from Krishna Convent School in Ludhiana after threatening his parents over the phone on Friday.

Gautam’s father Satpal Rajput told the police that he and his wife had left a mobile phone with his son as they had to go out of town for some time. Gautam had taken the phone to his school where it was stolen by a classmate. Later, the matter was settled amicably by the parents themselves after the mobile phone was returned to the Rajputs.

Singh, however, felt otherwise on hearing this. He first thrashed Gautam for settling the "school matter" outside the school. The teacher even insisted that Gautam’s parents visit the school and apologise for the "decision" to settle the matter themselves. "Gautam went to school on Friday and Singh beat him up and threatened him by putting gun on his head for settling the matter outside the school. He also asked him to bring us to say ’sorry’," the boy’s father said.

Satpal had reported the matter to the school authorities when the boy was thrashed again and sent back home the next day. His complaints, however, fell on deaf ears of the school authorities. Left with no choice, Satpal then approached the local police station. On Saturday, parents whose children are studying in the private school protested outside the school premises. The parents demanded strict action against the school authorities who, they alleged, rather taking action against the accused teacher misbehaved with Gautam’s parents. In 2012, the school was in news after a student had gone missing. Later, the student’s body was recovered from a canal after 22 days.

Incidentally, a case was registered at the same police station in the Daba-Lohara locality. "How the teacher was allowed to enter the school campus with a gun is being looked into.

Action will be taken against the school management and the principal for the violence and presence of weapon in the classroom," District Education Officer, Secondary, Paramjit Kaur said.

Meanwhile, the school owner Hardeep Singh claimed that he had terminated the service of the teacher following the shocking episode that took place in the classroom. "The parents are unnecessarily raking up the issue. They should come to me. We have terminated the service of Bhupinder Singh," he said.

The police are yet to arrest the teacher who went underground after the incident. Gautam’s parents have alleged that the local police tried to "settle" the matter and thus, no action was taken against Bhupinder Singh. "A complaint has been received at the Daba police station. We are investigating the case and action will be taken against the guilty" Additional Commissioner of Police, Kehar Singh said.
