Akali leader, son caught on camera assaulting Pregnant Nurse

Moga, Sep 23, 2016:  A politician of Punjab’s ruling Akali Dal and his son have been caught on camera viciously attacking and slapping a nurse, allegedly because they were asked to wait their turn. The nurse, who is pregnant, was slapped so hard that she fell to the ground at the hospital in Moga, 175 km from Chandigarh.

The police have filed cases of trespass, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation against the two, who are missing.

On Thursday, Paramjit Singh and his son Gurjit had gone to the Gupta hospital to pick up a patient but apparently confronted the nurse after being told to wait.

Paramjit Singh’s wife Daljit Kaur is a sarpanch or village head.

Father and son are seen in CCTV visuals shouting at the staff and then beating the nurse who tried to reason with them. The video, which has gone viral, shows Paramjit Singh and his son shoving and slapping the nurse.

"I only had asked them to wait outside as they were sitting on seats meant for staff. They could not take it and began to abuse me... to which I objected but they slapped me and pushed me to the floor, they hit me even though I said requested them to spare me because of my condition," said nurse Ramandeep, who is eight weeks pregnant.

"The duo told us they were Sarpanch...Since they are from the ruling party, they tried to use their clout and intimidate them," said Rahul Gupta, of Gupta hospital.
