After Crocodile, Bengaluru Finds an Anaconda on its Streets

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, Aug 11, 2015: First a crocodile and now a gigantic anaconda. Commuters and pedestrians on Bengaluru’s water-logged and pothole-ridden roads are having to navigate past what appears to be a giant snake feasting on a hapless human.

Thankfully, the reptile menace isn’t real and it’s there for a purpose. Almost two months ago, local artist Baadal Nanjundaswamy created a life-size crocodile as an installation to protest against a pothole that hadn’t been fixed for days. The artist painted around the area and created a swamp for the fake croc, causing a stir on social media.

Now, an NGO called Namma Bengaluru Foundation has taken a page out of Mr Baadal’s book and installed a big, scary anaconda emerging from a pothole, complete with a human arm sticking out of its mouth, according to an ABP report.

The NGO, looking to call the attention of the city’s civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike onto the drainage system and continuous traffic jams, decided to set up the fear-inducing installation.

The crocodile’s appearance on the main street and subsequently on social media resulted in the authorities fixing the pothole. Will the anaconda help deliver Bengaluru from potholes as well?
