AIADMK MLAs to elect Jayalalithaa as leader, swearing-in likely on May 23

Chennai, May 20, 2016 :  AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, who led her party to a successive win in the assembly elections, on Thursday convened her party’s Legislature Party meeting for Friday.

She is all set to be elected as leader of the Legislature Party in the meet, setting the stage for her to be sworn in as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for the sixth time.

"AIADMK’s legislative members’ meeting will be held today at 5 pm in the party headquarters and all the elected members should participate without fail," Jayalalithaa said in a statement in Chennai.

AIADMK has won over 130 constituencies which includes seats won by allies -- Karunas (Mukkulathor Pulipadai in Thruvadanai), U Thaniarasu (TN Kongu Ilangyar Peravai in Kangeyam), and Thammemun Ansari (Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi in Nagapattinam).

Several of the sitting Ministers including her trusted aide and Finance Minister O Panneerselvam. Industries Minister P Thangamani is among the prominent winners.

In another release, AIADMK headquarters said party chief Jayalalithaa would garland the statues of rationalist leader Periyar EVR and late Chief Ministers CN Annadurai and her party founder MG Ramachandran today afternoon.
