6 Maoists killed in encounter in Jharkhand

Latehar, Nov 23, 2016: At least six Maoists were killed by a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand police in an encounter in Latehar district early on Wednesday.

jawans The encounter occurred at around 5am near Nabarnagu-Karamdih area under Chhipadohar police station of Latehar, one of the most Maoist-affected regions in the state.

“So far six dead bodies of Maoists have been retrieved along with firearms. The offensive against the Maoists is going on,” Latehar superintendent of police Anoop Birtharay said.

“The bodies are yet to be identified,” Birtharay added.

The region that shares borders with Chhattisgarh is considered to be a Maoist hotbed and Burha Pahar, the hilly terrain where dreaded Maoists Arvind and Sudhakar are ensconced for months, is not far.

A joint team of CRPF, COBRA and state police recently launched a major offensive against the Maoists in the region.
