5 days after Reddy wedding in Bengaluru, Income tax surveys on vendors

Bengaluru, Nov 21, 2016: Five days after the extravagant wedding of Karnataka politician and mining tycoon Gali Janardhan Reddy’s daughter in Bengaluru, the Income Tax department is searching the vendors involved in it.

 

The tax department is carrying out surveys in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Last Wednesday, around 50,000 guests attended the outrageously expensive wedding organized at a time millions are struggling with a big currency ban that has severely limited their cash.

Some tax officials quietly visited the wedding amid questions about crores being spent on the invitation boxes fitted with LCD screens, life-size replicas of major monuments, mini-villages and Brazilian dancers at the Bangalore Palace grounds.

The CBI and other agencies are yet to track down the allegedly enormous wealth of Mr Reddy, 49, a former minister who is being investigated in several cases of illegal mining and who spent three years in prison before being released on bail last year.

Relatives claim Rs. 30 crore was spent and most of it was paid by cheque to event managers long before demonetization.

The invitees included top politicians and celebrities.

The wedding has been repeatedly raised in parliament by the opposition , which has aggressively taken up the notes ban.
