2nd anniversary in power, Congress to hold mega convention on May 16

Bengaluru, May 06: The ruling Congress party in the State has decided to hold a “Sadana Samavesha” (convention of achievements) in Davanagere on May 16 to celebrate completion of two years of Siddaramaiah Government.

The Congress Government in the State would complete two years of administration on May 13.

 

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G. Parameshwara called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the latter’s residence on Wednesday and finalised the preparedness for the event at Davanagere.

Digvijay Singh, AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka, and AICC Secretaries Selvakumar and Shanta Kumar would attend the programme. Besides Ministers, legislators, MPs, KPCC office-bearers, more than two lakh party workers are expected to take part in the event.

To accommodate a large number of workers, the party has decided to organise the function at a stadium in Davanagere on May 16, said Mr. Parameshwara, who held a meeting of party office-bearers on Tuesday.

Poll Code

The model code of conduct announced by the State Election Commission (SEC) for gram panchayat elections would not come in the way of holding the mega convention.

An official in the SEC told The Hindu that code of conduct would not enforceable in urban areas. Moreover, GP elections are not fought on party symbols.

The KPCC has instructed leaders to work for the victory of the party-supported candidates in the GP polls to be held on May 29 and June 2.

The Congress is likely to inform the voters about the controversial land acquisition ordinance of the Centre and popular programmes such as ‘Anna Bhagya’ and ‘Arogya Bhaya’ being implemented by the State government.
