16-yr-old ‘gangraped thrice in last 20 days’, one arrested, hunt on for two

Mumbai 23 Oct, 2015 : A 16-year-old girl from Jogeshwari has alleged that she was gangraped by at least three persons, including a boy she had recently become friends with, at least three times over the last 20 days.

The victim, in her statement to the police, has said she was given a spiked drink and the three accused took turns to rape her. She said the accused also threatened to kill her parents if she did not comply with their wishes.

According to the Oshiwara police, the main accused, Salman Khan (22), a resident of the Jogeshwari (West), has been arrested. The police said that the victim and her parents approached them on October 16 and registered a complaint against Salman.

“I was waiting for an autorickshaw to go to college in September when Salman stopped his motorbike close to me, snatched my cell phone from my hand and dialled his own number using it. I snatched it back and he asked my name, and when I refused, he left. Unable to understand what had just happened, I went to college. Soon after, Salman started calling me and asking me to meet him. He even made his sister approach me and plead his case. I finally relented and went out with him earlier this month. He offered me fruit juice, and I started feeling giddy after drinking it,” the victim has said in her statement.

Salman then allegedly took the victim to Aksa Beach, rented out one room and took her inside in a half asleep condition, after which he made her drink liquor and forced himself on her.

During this time, the victim, told the police, two other men entered the room and also followed suit, after which Salman dropped her home.

Salman allegedly took her back to the same place over the next two days. On the first occasion, he allegedly gave her a soft drink, suspected to have been spiked with a sedative, and forced himself on her.

The victim has told the police that she could hear at least one more person in the room, who was talking to Salman. On the third day, Salman picked her up from near her house, and when she tried to resist, he threatened to kill her father. He allegedly took her to the same room at Aksa beach, forced her to drink liquor and raped her, and two more men also allegedly joined him.

“While dropping me home that night, Salman gave me some pills and told me to consume them. He also told me that he would be picking me up the next day, and that I should bring some of the gold jewellery from my house with me,” the victim has told the police.

However, on the fourth day, the victim started suffering from stomach pains and when her mother asked her what was wrong, she told her about the exploitation that she had been facing. Her mother then took her to the Oshiwara police station.Senior Police Inspector Subhash Khanvilkar confirmed that the case had been registered, and that Salman had been arrested, adding that further investigations into the case were underway.

Officials said that Salman and his co-accused have been charged with rape, outraging a woman’s modesty, kidnapping and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code and with sexual assault on a minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
