’Ban ceiling fans’: Rakhi Sawant’s bizarre demand to PM Modi

Apr 06, 2016: Just when you think Rakhi Sawant has been missing in action, she manages to come up with things and quotes so unique (read bizarre) that your eyes pop out in disbelief.

Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant, who was a close friend of TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee who allegedly committed suicide on Friday, demands that ceiling fans, which are apparently a major medium of committing suicide these days, should be absolutely banned.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, she urged the people to use either a table fan or an air conditioner but give up on the much-used ceiling fans to prevent their ’daughters, wives’ from committing suicides. She advocated the need to remove ceiling fans as too many women have been hanging themselves “Whoever loves their daughter, I appeal to them to remove fans from their homes. and instead keep a table fan or an AC", she said.

Urging PM Modi to take a special note and asking him to get the fans removed from every household, Sawant expressed her concern for the various people who’ve committed suicide but not been able to hit the headlines . "I want to request Modiji to get these ceiling fans removed from every household."

The actress also highlighted that it is much more important to ban the fans than chanting ’Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ as many ’daughters and daughter-in-laws’ are committing suicide.

When asked about the affordability of the idea she’s putting forward, she confidently said, "If a poor can’t afford a table fan, we’ll go and distribute 5000 fans amongst them."

Sawant was also among the many television actors who were present at the cremation of their fellow actor Pratyusha Banerjee.
