"National Anthem a must in UP Madrasas" - Court backs Yogi Adityanath’s order

Lucknow, Oct 05, 2017: The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday rejected the petition that sought exemption from singing the national anthem in Madrasas in Uttar Pradesh.

The court, while dismissing the plea, observed that it is a mandate for every Madrasa to respect the national anthem and national song.

On the occasion of Independence Day this year, the Yogi Adityanath government passed an order that made it compulsory for students at madrassas to sing the national anthem and hoist the tricolour.

However, as per reports, several madrasas across Uttar Pradesh openly defied the government’s order and did not sing the national anthem. They even refused to videograph the Independence Day celebrations, one among the several orders passed by the state government.

At present, around 8,000 madrasas in Uttar Pradesh come under the Parishad. Among these, 560 are fully aided by the state.

A circular was issued in this regard by the Uttar Pradesh government that asked all madrasas affiliated to it to comply with its orders.

This was probably the first time that the madrasas were asked by the government to hold cultural programmes on the Independence Day.
