Thumbay Hospital Ajman Launches Diabetes Awareness Campaign

Ajman, Nov 14, 2016: Thumbay Hospital – Ajman, the leading academic hospital owned by Thumbay Group’s healthcare division, launched a diabetes awareness campaign “Count Your Steps – To Beat Diabetes,” on Sunday, 13th November 2016. Organized to mark ‘World Diabetes Day,’ the campaign was supported by UAE Ministry of Health & Prevention, Municipality & Planning Department – Ajman and Ajman Police.

 

Mr. Akbar MoideenThumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group inaugurated the event in the presence of H.E. HamadTaryam Al Shamsi, Director Ajman Medical District, Ministry of Health – UAE, as well as officials from Municipality & Planning Department – Ajman and Ajman Police.

Dr. Manvir Singh Walia, Director – Operations of Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division, Dr. PrashanthHegde - Medical Director and Dr. Gurjit Singh Monga - Chief Operating Officer of Thumbay Hospital, Ajman were also present.

The event was marked by a walkathon by school children, emphasizing the importance of physical activity in keeping diabetes at bay.Students from eight schools in Ajman participated in the walkathon.“Through this program, we aim to create awareness that one positive step towards a healthier lifestyle can make a big difference in your life. Diabetes is a lifestyle-related illness, and is catching pace in the region. We need to work towards finding ways to keep ourselves active, for a healthier future,” said Mr. Akbar MoideenThumbay.


Thumbay Hospital also organized free health checkup for participants, as part of the event. Many participants availed the free blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI tests, and sought advice on healthy lifestyle. The program ended with the distribution of mementos for the supporting organizations and participant institutions.
