Ajman: New academic year begins at Gulf Medical University

Ajman, Sep 1, 2015: Students opting to study physical therapy program at Gulf Medical University will be offered an excellent opportunity to be trained in one of the most sophisticated rehabilitation centers in the region. Admissions for the current academic year of bachelors in physical therapy are about to close at the university.

The university is setting up a hi-tech rehabilitation center which will have physical therapy, speech and hearing and occupational therapy specialties, and sports medicine, with state of the art laboratories including GAIT analysis lab. The center will be constructed in three floors with an area of 30,000 square feet. With the opening slated for September 2016, the university aims to offer high quality education in physical therapy and allied health sciences.

The college of Allied Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University offers Bachelor of Physical Therapy, a four year program with an annual intake of 25 seats. It is one of the most sought after programs at the university. "We have very few seats left in BPT program and we encourage prospective students to apply before September 15," says prof Mohamed Arifulla, dean admissions and registers.

Last year, the university launched the Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHS) at Medical Laboratory Sciences, BHS in medical imaging sciences, BHS in anaesthesia and surgical technology and BHS in nursing sciences.

All these programs have received initial accreditation from the UAE ministry of higher education and scientific research. They were launched through GMU’s constituent College of Allied Health Sciences. Each program will have 10 seats per year.

“We will continue to survey the market to develop many more programs to meet the needs not only of health professionals but also of health management and to support workers and health science investigators in order to meet the health-care needs of the nation and the region,” said Thumbay Moideen, founder president of the Board of Governors at GMU.
