Diplomats and officers, led by the heads of missions, at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai prayed for the victims who were involved in the Air India Express flight IX1344 flight crash.

The Embassy tweeted, "All officers and staff members of the Indian Embassy led by Ambassador Pavan Kapoor prayed for the victims of the accident involving Air India Express flight IX1344 from Dubai to Kozhikode. We wish speedy recovery of all the injured."
The Consulate also held a similar remembrance meeting on Sunday. Taking to Twitter, the Consulate announced, "CGI, Dubai observed two- minutes silence in memory of victims of IX 1344 Dubai to Kozhikode and wished for speedy recoveries of injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families." The meeting in Dubai was led by Consul-General of India to Dubai Dr Aman Puri.

At least 18 people were killed and more than 100 injured when an Air India Express passenger plane repatriating Indians stranded by the Covid-19 pandemic overshot the runway in heavy rain near Kozhikode on Friday.

The Boeing-737 flight from Dubai to Calicut International Airport was carrying 190 passengers and crew, the civil aviation ministry said in a statement. Among them were 10 infants.

Television footage showed rescue workers moving around the wreckage in pouring rain. The aircraft lay split into at least two chunks after the plane’s fuselage sheared apart as it fell into a valley 35 feet below, authorities said.
