Gurugram, Nov 14, 2022: In a first of a kind, a couple in Gurugram conducted marriage rituals for their pet dog to a neighbourhood canine and administered the creatures’ wedlock. The ceremony was observed following the rituals of Indian weddings. The wedding ceremony of the two dogs included the traditional ’pheras’.

In fact, the dog owner told news agency ANI that a ’haldi ceremony’ was also organised for her dogs and the dog’s to-be partner. Dogs, namely Sweety and Sheru, got married on November 14.

The visuals and the wedding were nothing short of peculiar. In fact, invitations were sent out and around 100 wedding invites were handed out in the neighbourhood.

Residents of Jile Singh Colony in Palam Vihar Extension may have been taken by surprise, but a crowd did attend the wedding ceremony. They attended rituals for the two dogs as ’baraatis’.

I am a pet lover and, as a couple, we used to take care of pets. I do not have a child, so Sweety (the female dog) is our kid. My husband used to go to the temple and feed animals and one day a stray dog followed him and came to us three years ago. We named her Sweety," the owner, Savita, said.

She said that people used to suggest that Sweety should be married. "We planned a ceremony in four days and decided to follow all rituals," she added.

She also mentioned that they were not scared of cops nabbing them as they were a childless couple and this was their only happiness.

"People used to say that police will pick us and put us in jail but we are not bothered," she said.

On the other hand, the male dog Sheru’s owner, Manita, said that the idea was brought up jokingly but the dogs’ wedding ceremony became a serious discussion.
