Spring into fashion: After Zardari’s visit, Delhi is draped in a chic Pakistan cloak

New Delhi, April 15: It’s the season of many firsts between Pakistan and India and the revelry continues days after Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s day-long visit to the Capital along with his very charming son 24-year-old Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

April being the month of fashion weeks in Pakistan, the westerly winds have swept the Capital as well, as everyone seems to wanting a bite of Pakistani fashion.

 

The four-day-long Lifestyle Expo being held at Pragati Maidan has seen many Lawn lovers throng the venue in the past three days.

While the Expo is open to the general public, a select few got to witness Pakistan’s first ever fashion show in India at the Taj Palace hotel on Friday evening.

The gala dinner was hosted by Makhdoom M. Fahim, Pakistan’s senior federal minister of commerce, and Tariq Puri, chief executive of trade authority of Pakistan (TDAP). Designers such as Rizwan Beig, Faiza Samee, Honey Waqar and Gul Ahmed showcased their collection.

Colourful display: The show bought a touch of spring to the city

Sahar Atif, who showed ’Pareesa for Chen One’ along with collection ’Gulistan-i-Sahar’ that she showcased at Pakistan Fashion Week last year, said: ’We are looking forward to business at all levels, from retail to joint ventures for our diverse product line.’

Samee, who has been coming to India for many years, designed wedding wear with lotus motifs.

’The kamal motif is my ode to the Indian culture. I’ve often said how we don’t need a Dubai for trade to happen. I hope this show bolsters direct trade relations between the two countries along with transparent banking system, export duties etc,’ she said.

The evening also saw a performance by Ali Zafar.
