May 03, 2022: Natasha Poonawalla made heads turn at the Met Gala 2022, held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The businesswoman and philanthropist, who has a strong penchant for fashion, embraced an exquisite Sabyasachi saree for fashion’s biggest night. She looked every bit sensational, we must say.

Designer Sabyasachi took to Instagram to share Natasha’s photos in the all-golden ensemble that she wore for the event. This year, the Met Gala theme is In America: An Anthology of Fashion and the dress code is Gilded Glamour. Natasha definitely nailed the dress code as she slipped into a metallic bustier by Schiaparelli paired with a custom Sabyasachi couture saree and trail.

“For me the sari is a truly unique and versatile garment that owns its identity even as it transcends boundaries and geographies. Back when I was a young fashion student, I often wondered when I would see the sari at big global fashion events like the Met Gala,” designer Sabyasachi wrote in his Instagram post.

“Met Gala, themed ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’, Natasha Poonawalla’s vision was to interpret the dress code ‘gilded glamour’ with an Indian gaze that revels in its multi-culturalism and authenticity,” he added.

What Natasha Poonawalla wore was a gold handcrafted printed tulle saree with a dramatic train that was embroidered with silk floss thread and embellished with bevel beads, semi-precious stones, crystals, sequins and appliquéd printed velvet.

Celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania styled Natasha’s look. The diva also wore a heavy assemblage of striking jewels comprising statement earrings and stacks of regal bangles in both arms. The makeup, dipped in nude and gold hues, complemented the outfit well.

Natasha Poonawalla is an Indian philanthropist and the chairman of Villoo Poonawalla Foundation. She is the wife of Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India, and also the executive director of the company.
