Lesbian Scene In Renault Car Ad Banned From Italy TV

Mtoday news

Italy, Dec 17: A racy ad  for a new Renault model named Twingo, which features a seductive bedroom scene between two women and hardly a mention of the car has been banned by Italian TV chiefs, The Daily Mail reports..

The 30-second commercial begins with two attractive women - one brunette and one blonde - exchanging smouldering glances at a party before heading off to a bedroom.

Once inside, the brunette removes her pink top to unveil a black lacy bra before lying on the bed as the blonde teasingly holds up a black silk stocking which she uses as a blindfold.

She then jumps on top of the woman, only to notice the pink top, grab it and run out of the bedroom - at which point the focus of the advert, the Renault Twingo, is seen for the first time.

Standing next to the car the blonde, who is now wearing the pink top, compares its colour to the paintwork of the Twingo Miss Sixty before getting into the driver’s seat.

At no point during the advert do any interior shots of the car, details of technical specification or a price get a mention.

The advertisement was made by Publicis, but state TV RAI and surprisingly Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset empire have refused to air it.

TV commentator Nino Materi said: ’The tension in the commercial is electric - as the blonde licks her lips so are the audience.’

Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera said: ’Is it controversial or cutting edge? One thing for certain though at no point during the advert is any technical aspect of the new Renault Twingo ever mentioned.’

The ad  has outraged gay groups in Italy, with many claiming it is offensive to lesbians.

Daniele Tranchini of Publicis, in Milan, said: ’We wanted to create an advert that was original, enjoyable and at the same time not vulgar and I believe we have achieved that. What is clever is that you think the advert is going one way but in the end it goes another - it’s great don’t you think?’

He added that the advert was only being screened in Italy - on Sky - but could well be aired across Europe

Between 1991 and 1998 Renault was famous in the UK for a series of adverts dubbed ’Papa and Nicole’, in which Estelle Skornik and Max Douchin exchanged the titular words.

That advert was also made by Publicis and it was named the most popular car advert ever made.
