78th Primetime Emmys: Widow’s Bay dominates with 14 wins; Matthew Rhys, Jean Smart make history

Los Angeles, Sep 15, 2026: From Matthew Rhys making history with his double victory to Widow’s Bay emerging as the winner and dominating the night with 14 wins, there were several historical moments at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The prestigious awards ceremony took place on Monday, starting at 5pm PT, at the Peacock Theater at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles.

Another highlight of the night was Jean Smart winning her fifth consecutive Emmy for Hacks. Interestingly, she scripted history by becoming the first performer to win an Emmy for every season of the show.

Apple TV’s horror comedy Widow’s Bay led the 2026 Emmy Awards with 14 wins from 19 nominations followed by HBO’s medical drama The Pitt with seven wins from 25 nominations.

The ceremony, which is touted to be television’s biggest event, was hosted by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay. She made history by becoming the first woman to host the Primetime Emmys in 15 years.
