George Albert Rodrigue, St Aloysius CollegeMangalore, Feb 23, 2014: George here is a ‘Knowledge Giant’ - he is a giant when it comes to books and knowledge for thousands of tomes pass through his hands. George Albert Rodrigue is the Chief Librarian of the historic College of Mangalore the one and only  St.Aloysius, for over 30 years. No doubt students of all kinds pursuing a wide range of fields always pursue him. He is an intellectual who earned the prized Ph.D from Mangalore University in Jan. 2014. (Title: A Study of Organizational Culture and Change Management in Library and Information Centres in Coastal Karnataka).

His string of degrees and achievements are many. He did his  B.Com degree from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. B.Lib.Sc and M.Lib. Sc( Distinction with II rank) from Mangalore University, M.A. History from Karnataka University Dharwad and M.Phil in Library Science from Alagappa University, Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu.

He has  attended 35 regional and national level workshops and seminars in Library and Information Science, Published papers in national journals. Presently he is the President of the St. Aloysius College Staff Association.

Expressing concern over the declining interest of students and teachers in reading  arts, literature, biographies and the like, George speaks about his plans to start an educational aid fund for  poor children who discontinue their studies for financial or other reasons. “My objective is to convert the traditional college library into a wholesome user friendly service and develop a Local History and Research Centre at SAC."  This true Mangalorean smiles and glows adding that his wife Flourine and daughters Carol and Sharol light his path.  Yes, books and librarians are friends, libraries our moral refuge.
