Anil Hegde: From Kundapur to Bihar

Mangaluru, June 20, 2022: Anil Hegde who was recently elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in the bypolls in Bihar as a JD(U) candidate,  has a connection to the coast. He hails from Kundapur and is an ardent follower of former defence minister George Fernandes. He has also served the  Janata Dal during the times of Ramakrishna Hegde and also as Secretary to George Fernandes. He had joined hands with George Fernandes in several of the movements and agitations the latter was involved in.

Anil’s association with the JD(U) Chief and present  Bihar Chief Minister is over a decade old and presently he is the state Vice President of JD(U).

Hailing from Salvadi in Kundapur he had his initial schooling at Bidkalkatte and graduated from the Government College in Mangaluru. A bachelor, Anil Hegde has made the JD(U) office at Bihar as his home and is known for his humility and honesty.

Based in Bihar for more than 12 years now, Hegde stays in the JD(U)’s Patna office. He has been the party’s national returning officer, handling organisational elections and membership drives among other responsibilities. “My father was an advocate and my family is into horticulture. But I was drawn to socialist politics very early in my life. And I have never hankered for any posts,” said Hegde, who wears only sandals and hand-woven khadi clothes, much like his mentor Fernandes.
