NST to protest against anti-people projects

Mangalore, Feb 4: Somanath Nayak, the president of Nagarika Seva Trust, Guruvayankere told media persons that the NST will stage a protest against anti-people industrial projects in the coastal towns of Karnataka in front of the DC office during the second week of March.

The protestors intend to demand a study of how many industries the coastal districts can handle before industrializing it further and the total cancellation of MSEZ phase II, Petroleum Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR), and the Netravathi diversion projects. Mr. Nayak said that they would invite elected representatives of the region to get information on the various steps they have taken to solve the problems of the people. 

Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt will flag off the protest. Religious leaders, members of the Krishi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samithi, Mahila Jagruthi Vedike, Karavali Karnataka Janabhivriddi Vedike, Karnataka Krishikara Vedike, Bharatiya Kisan Santh, Dalit Abhivruddhi Samithi, Swadeshi Jagran Manch, and Jamat-e-Islami Hind will participate in the protest.
