Mangalore, Jan 8: Govindaraj Hegde, the convener of Save NH 17 Committee, said that NH 17, 63, 206, and 48 will be blocked from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan 23 in order to bring the attention of the authorities concerned to their pathetic state of disrepair. 

Only ambulances, press vehicles, milk vans, and vehicles taking patients to hospitals will be allowed on these highways on that day. 

The committee demands the immediate release of funds to repair NH17, the completion of concretization of the Shiradi Ghat stretch of road within a month, immediate completion of the four-lane project at Kundapur-Suratkal, and complete details of the funds released for the repair and maintenance of NH17 during the last 25 years. 

Mr. Hegde also said that a committee of experts must be formed in order to investigate the condition of NH17 and that a meeting should be called to discuss the effective maintenance of the highway. 

Damodar Aithal, Rajavarma Ballal, Deviprasad Shetty, B Sudhakar Shetty, Nithyananda Olakadu, C Vijaya Hegde, Ramesh Kotian, Jayaraj Pai Mangalore, and many others participated in the press conference.
