Samudaaya stages street plays to eliminate hunger problem

Mangalore, Dec 31: Samudaaya Mangalore, a forum that fosters culture and tradition in Mangalore, will organize a series of cultural awareness programmes from Jan 1, 2010. Sara Aboobakker, the renowned Kannada writer, will inaugurate the programme.

The purpose of this cultural drive is to focus attention on the country’s food problems and to create awareness about the government’s anti-people policies that have resulted in severe food shortage. 

Vasudeva Uchila, the district convener of Samudaya, said during a press conference that the organization will perform a street play titled “Annadatha” by S G Siddharamaiah in front of the DC’s office on Jan 1. The street play, directed by Ravindranatha Sirivara, is based on the theme of food scarcity and the problems faced by farmers. 

Samudaaya will stage the street play in different parts of Karnataka, such as Thokkottu, Gurupura, Moodubidri, Ujire, Kalleri, Vittla, BC Road, Panjimogaru, Bajal, Kaikamba, Shirthadi, Belthangady, Puttur, Bantwal, and Bikarnakatte, from Jan 4 – 7.
