He noticed the filthy conditions in which the fisherwomen worked. They had no clean place to sit and were forced to work in unhygienic conditions in a place that lacked proper drainage system. The women do not even have cleaning water. He said that he was shocked at the condition of the fish markets and that he has ordered the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to take immediate steps to make the markets cleaner and safer for consumers as well as the fisherwomen.

He said that the government is taking the required steps to improve the condition of fish markets in coastal areas and that the fisheries minister has informed him that funds will be sanctioned for the improvement of the fish markets.

Mr. Palemar spoke to the fisherwomen working in the fish market near State Bank and assured them that he would personally monitor the development of fish markets in Mangalore and see to it that they will get the best possible facilities.

Officials of the MCC and Fisheries Department accompanied the minister.
