St Aloysius College organizes 130th Annual Sports Meet

Mangalore, Dec 18: St Aloysius College organized its 130th Annual Sports Meet on the Centenary Grounds. Mr. Arthur D’Souza, the manager of Karnataka Bank, Balmatta, and an avid sportsman inaugurated the sports meet in an innovative manner by releasing three pigeons symbolizing peace, unity, and freedom. 

The chief guest, Mr. Arthur D’Souza, in his inaugural speech said that sports people need to put in a lot of hard work and dedication in order to succeed. He condemned the use of shortcuts such as drugs and painkillers, which might bring short-term success, but will ultimately create a variety of health problems. 

Fr. Swebert D’Silva, the principal of St. Aloysius College, made the welcome speech. Prof Donnet D’Souza, the manager of the sports meet escorted the guests to inspect the teams, following which Fr Joseph Rodrigues hoisted the college flag. Prof Donnet D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. 

A large number of students participated in the 130th Annual Sports Meet. DJ Monty kept the crowds entertained with his lively music. Mr. Adolph and his team of students headed the college band. 

Dr. N D Shetty was the chief guest of the valedictory programme organized later that day. In his speech, he said that sport plays a great role in personal development. Almost everybody has a talent for sport, but only a few identify and nurture it. He also said that hard work and dedication is the key to success. 

Fr. Swebert D’Silva and Dr. Shetty distributed the prizes to the winners and champions of various sports events.
