Mangalore, Aug 9, 2013 : Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Tulasi Maddineni has informed that the ZP plans to launch an extensive cleanliness and sanitation campaign in all gram panchayats of the district.
Addressing a meeting held here on August 8, Thursday, she said hand books on the topic highlighting various measures that need to be taken to maintain cleanliness would be distributed to students in schools and colleges.
There will also be a door-to-door campaign wherein people will be sensitized on waste segregation and management. There is further a plan to provide for plastic and glass recycling even in very gram Panchayat level, she informed.
She also stated that the Zilla Panchayat was determined to make the district a plastic free zone.
Manjula G, District Co-ordinator of Nirmal Bharath Abhiyan, who also spoke, said solid waste management plants will be soon operational at Yedapadvu, Ganjimutta and Kembrale at a cost of Rs 8.5 lakhs, Rs 9.3 lakhs and Rs 9.18 lakhs respectively.
Public toilets will also be constructed at Nelyadi, Kalladka, Talapady, Ajjavar, Beluvai and at Shaktinagar on Guruvayanakere-Venoor highway.
