Mangalore, Dec 29, 2012: Renowned social activist Teesta Setalvad who was in Mangalore on December 29, Saturday to take part in the Aikyatha Samavesh organized by the Komu Sauharda Vedike, was highly critical of former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.
“Yeddyurappa cannot convince us by just saying that he has changed,” she said and added minorities have been attacked right under his nose during his tenure. Even RSS members had amassed huge wealth, during his rule, she said. ”Yeddyurappa has to do something substantial to prove that he stands for secularism,” she added.
Teesta was also highly critical of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and said though Modi was successful in maintaining a hold on Gujarat, to say that the Muslims voted for him would be false. She further claimed that the Muslim votes got divided in the state.
She claimed that the main reason for the victory of Narendra Modi in Gujarat was the huge sum spent on election marketing and the split in Muslim votes. She also said that Narendra Modi enjoyed success in Gujarat not because of his party, but because of his organization.
“The judiciary in the nation had failed in upholding the Constitution,” Teesta further regretted.
