Mangaluru, Apr 12, 2026: Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao lauded the enthusiasm and creativity of the Konkani community, stating that despite their smaller population, they have made significant contributions in cultural and social spheres, with music deeply embedded in their identity.
He was speaking after launching the logo of the first World Konkani Music Mega Convention, scheduled to be held from November 3 to 15, as part of the Manikya Mahotsav celebrations of Mandd Sobhann, a Konkani cultural organisation. The launch ceremony featured the lighting of 12 differently coloured lamps placed on a replica of a veena, followed by the unveiling of the event logo.

Highlighting the organisation’s achievements, he said Mandd Sobhann is now preparing to set a new world record with the participation of 6,000 singers performing 5,000 songs.
On the occasion, MLC Ivan D’Souza and music director Joel Pereira were presented with musical batons. MLA Vedavyas Kamath and artist Michael Gracious conveyed their best wishes.
In his introductory address, Mandd Sobhann president Louis Pinto said that continuing the legacy of Eric Ozario, who elevated Konkani music to great heights, would be a fitting tribute. He noted that the event is not merely an attempt to enter the Guinness records, but also a celebration of Konkani unity and an opportunity to showcase its rich musical heritage to the world.
Singer Joyce Ozario was felicitated during the programme. MESCOM president Harish Kumar, organiser Stany Alvares, and secretary Ronald Crasta were among those present.
The programme also featured a musical performance by the Sumel team led by Raina Sequeira and a documentary on the journey of Mandd Sobhann. Kalangann patron Roy Castelino delivered the vote of thanks, while Irene Rebello compered the event.
