
Kasargod, Oct. 4, 2026: A 19-year-old worker was killed and two others injured after gas was released under high pressure from a boiler at a factory in the Ananthapur Industrial Estate near Kumble on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Maheshwar Kanhar (19), a native of Odisha. One of the injured, Tanuja (24), is in critical condition, while Sidhananda (21) is undergoing treatment. The accident occurred around 10 am at the Oxygen Promax factory, which manufactures value-added products from chicken waste.

According to reports, gas was suddenly released with great force from the factory’s boiler, throwing Maheshwar, who was working nearby, into a deep pit filled with chicken waste.
On seeing Maheshwar fall into the pit, Tanuji and Siddhananda rushed to rescue him but were also injured. Other workers subsequently pulled all three out of the pit and rushed them to hospital.
Maheshwar succumbed to his injuries despite treatment. Tanuji, who sustained serious injuries, was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where his condition remains critical. Siddhananda is receiving treatment at Kumble District Cooperative Hospital.
