Reportedly, Raghavendra (24), who belongs to the upper caste, and Uma (20), who belongs to the lambani community were in love for nearly 2 years. Raghavendra, who hails from Gadag, worked in a hotel near State Bank, Mangalore and Uma was employed as a sweeper in Kandukamane, a residence close by.

Although the two were in love, the boy’s family was against their marriage, owing to which Raghavendra was hesitating to marry Uma.

Uma sought the help of Girija, the sub inspector of the Women Police Department, who warned Raghavendra’s family that strict action will be taken against them if Raghavendra fails to marry her.

Thanks to the efforts of Girija, the two love birds got married at Mahalingeshwara Temple in Pandeshwar on Jan 3, Monday.
