Woman Arrested for ₹1.98 Lakh Cheque Fraud in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Oct 19, 2025: The Barke police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old woman, Farida Begum, for cheating an electronics shop of ₹1.98 lakh by issuing fake cheques.

Farida, wife of Ramiz Raja and a resident of Muttur village, had purchased three high-end laptops from Laptop Bazar on Mahatma Gandhi Road through an acquaintance. The cheques she presented for payment later turned out to be invalid, prompting shop owner Jayaram to lodge a complaint.

Police said Farida has been involved in similar cheque frauds at jewellery and electronic stores. Cases are pending against her in Kavoor, Bajpe, Moodbidri, Mulky, Puttur and Shirva police stations. She had also skipped bail in a case registered by Mulky police, for which a court had issued a warrant.

The accused was arrested by Investigating Officer Vinayak Toragal and women police personnel under the supervision of Inspector Mohan Kottary and has been remanded to judicial custody till November 3.
