Mangalore, July 5, 2012 : Vittala Malekudiya, a student of mass communication and journalist at Mangalore University, who was arrested in March for alleged connection with Naxals, was finally released from jail on July 5, Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class Court in Belthangady granted bail to Vittala on July 3, and a copy of the same was submitted to the jailor on July 4, Wednesday. On Thursday, Vittala and his father Linganna Malekudiya were released on conditional bail.
A large number of supporters and well-wishers received the father – son duo as they came out of jail. Slogans of “Inquilab Zindabad” went up in the air. Besides, the crowd also shouted slogans against the Anti Naxal Force (ANF) and the police department for making false allegations against Vittala and his father.
Vittala’s supporters included leaders and members of organizations such as Student Federation of India (SFI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), and DYFI.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, DYFI leader Muneer Katipalla said that the ANF must be dissolved. Calling the release of Vittala and his father as “the victory of their fight for justice,” he said that the police department and the state government failed to produce the charge sheet in court after accusing the father and son of Naxal connections. He expressed hopes that all allegations against Vittala and his father will be proved false.
Katipalla also spoke against the government’s proposal for the Kudremukh Tiger Reserve Project and said that the DYFI will continue fighting against the eviction of people belonging to the Malekudiya community in this region. He vowed that his organization will continue protesting against the ANF and the police department.
