Vishwa Kannada Teru begins journey from Udupi District

Udupi, March 9: A “ratha” (chariot) depicting the culture and history of Udupi district left temple town on Wednesday, March 9 to Belgaum for the World Kannada meet to be held on March 11 to 13.

 


 

 


The chariot was ceremoniously flagged off as the District Zilla Panchayat president  Katpady Shankar Poojary  broke the coconut and lit the lamp in front of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari’s portrait. The schoolchildren clad in uniform holding Kannada flag in their hand joined in singing the State’s anthem. The rhythm from the band and dance by Yakshagana artistes added flavour to the flagging off ceremony.


The chariot had posters of the Udupi  district’s tourist places  and potraits of Gopalakrishna Adiga, legendary Kannada poet and great kannada literature Kota Shivarama Karanta as well as cultural art forms such as Nagamandala, Bhoota kola and Yakshagana and Kambala.


Town councillor Kiran Kumar, taluk panchayat president Devadas Hebbar, deputy councillor Bharati Chandrashekar, acting DC Prabhakar, zilla panchayat CEO N Rajashekar, municipal commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, taluk panchayat CEO Manjunatayya, district Kannada and culture department director R S Dalvai, district public instructions department director Dar Mahidas, youth and sports department assistant director Sitanadi Vittal Shetty, ASP Venkateshappa, DySP Jayant V Shetty, Kannada Sahitya Parishat office-bearers Bhuvendra Prasad and Dr Gananath Yekkar were present on the occasion.
