Virology Laboratory at Wenlock becomes operational

Mangaluru, April 07, 2020:   The Virology Laboratory at the Government Wenlock Hospital has  commenced operations thereby fulfilling a longstanding demanding particularly in the backdrop of the Coronavirus outbreak.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Indian Council of Medical Research has given its approval for the laboratory for testing COVID-19 samples. The laboratory at Wenlock is the 10th operational government lab for testing COVID-19 samples in Karnataka.

With the commencement of the laboratory, henceforth samples need not be sent to Hassan   centre for testing.

The  specialists from ICMR have inspected the facilities at the lab. Interestingly within three weeks of Health Minister B Sriramulu’s announcement, the lab has come up and is equipped with all facilities. As many as 150 samples can be tested here every day. A total of five technicians and a microbiologist are functioning at the centre.
