Views on CCE differ at teachers day celebrations in City

Mangaluru, Sep 5, 2015:  Speaking at a function organised by the office of the Block Education Officer, Mangaluru South, at the St. Sebastian Hall, MLC Ganesh Karnik said CCE process is complicated.  Though I am not an educational expert, I do not find any need for such a system of evaluation.

MLC  Karnik said teachers are made to keep a detailed record of each child and this hardly leaves any time for them to teach children. There were no such systems during past  times but teachers did well to evaluate  and guide.  Referring to a teacher from the government primary school in his village in Karkala taluk, who has been a big influence.  Difficulties faced are well known and have been raised with the Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar.

In an another function organised by the Mangaluru North Block Education office at the St. Aloysius High School, Navel Britto, former headmistress, came in support of the CCE system. In her address after being felicitated on her retirement from service,  Educationist Britto said the new system has made teachers creative in coming out with activities that make students understand concepts easily. It is helping slow learners a lot,  adding that there was a need to bring in changes in the CCE to make it more effective.

Former Principal of Yenepoya School C.K. Manjunath said teachers need to change the present culture of evaluation that was necessary to encourage children in the fields that they like.  


Earlier speaking at the function at the St. Sebastian Hall, Health Minister U.T. Khader said the Health Department was ready to provide health insurance coverage for teachers in aided and unaided schools under the Aarogya Sanjeevini Scheme.

Difering  points of view were expressed about the CCE - Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation at two functions held to mark the Teachers’ Day in the city on September 5.
