Veteran Yakshagana artiste, former MLA Kumble Sunder Rao passes away

Mangaluru, Nov 30, 2022: Veteran Yakshagana artiste and former MLA Kumble Sunder Rao passed away on November 30, Wednesday morning. He was 88.

Rao had served as an artiste in Suratkal, Dharmasthala and Ira Yakshagana Melas and had also served as Chairman of Karnataka State Yakshagana Academy. He had served as MLA of Suratkal from 1994 to 1999.

He had the credit of being the first Yakshagana artiste to be elected as an MLA. Rao was born in Kumble of Kerala state  on March 20, 1934 and had served the yakshagana field for over five decades.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters. His last rites will be held on Thursday. Public can pay last respects to the departed artiste at his residence near Pumpwell.
