Bantwal, July 20, 2025: Renowned Thenkuthittu Yakshagana artiste and veteran bannada vesha performer Siddakatte Sadashiva Shettigar passed away in a Mangaluru hospital on Sunday following illness. He was 60.
A resident of Manchakallu in Sangabettu village, Shettigar was a senior artiste with the Hanumagiri Yakshagana troupe and had recently retired after a 36-year-long career. He was known for his powerful portrayal of characters, especially the demon Mahishasura.
Trained by Yakshagana stalwarts Renjala Ramakrishna Rao and Bannada Mahalinga, Shettigar had performed with several prominent troupes including Kateel, Dharmasthala, and Hosanagar.
Despite recent health challenges, he was honoured with the Yakshamangala Award by Mangalore University’s Yakshagana Study Centre, along with several other accolades.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
