Mangalore Today News Network

veerappa moilyBangalore, Dec 13: M Veerappa Moily, the union law minister, has proposed that the natural gas pipeline connection between Dabhol and Bangalore must be extended to Mangalore. In a letter addressed to Murli Deora, his cabinet colleague, Moily has requested quick approval for his suggestion.

In his letter Moily states that GAIL India Ltd. will be managing the Dabhol-Mangalore gas pipeline project, which is to be commissioned by the end of Dec 2011. The demand for gas in Mangalore is approximately 7.5 million metric standard cubic meters per day. If the Dabhol-Bangalore natural gas pipeline is extended to Mangalore, it will lead to the city’s rapid economic as well as industrial growth.

Moily also said that extending the pipeline to Mangalore would not only help in reducing the air pollution in the city, but will also prove to be the best solution for the power crisis that the city is currently facing. The natural gas can be used to establish a gas-based power production unit in Mangalore.

In his letter to Deora, Moily said that the completion of the Mangalore SEZ project will give a completely new look to the city. He therefore requested Deora to incorporate the project of nature gas pipeline extension to Mangalore in the annual budget so that the project can be approved and completed at the earliest possible.
