Vanya Charana Balaga plans awareness drive against proposed Yettinahole Project

Mangalore, Aug 2, 2013: The Vanya Charana Balaga has urged the government to drop the Yettinahole project. Speaking to reporters here on August 2, Friday, Dinesh Holla, Convenor of the Balaga dubbed the project as unscientific and added it would endanger the very existence of River Netravathi, the lifeline of coastal districts.

He said River Netravathi  is an indispensable part of the lives of the coastal people  and urged the people of the  coastal districts to  sink all differences and come together to  fight against the proposed project.

He said trekkers from Vanya Charana Balaga have  undertaken trekking in the Western Ghat areas on several occasions in the past 15 year period and in the course have also done enough study on the  rich bio-diversity  of the region. The proposed Yettinahole Project if implemented would  endanger the Western Ghats, he feared.

He also informed that the Vanya Charana Balaga would hold awareness programmes against the project in schools, colleges and various organizations in its endeavour to pressurize the government to drop the project.

Sudhir Kumar, President of the Balaga,Ramesh Kamath, its Vice President, Sunil Kumar, Deputy Secretary were also present at the press meet.
