Mangaluru, Oct 19, 2023: Police have registered a case against VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell for disrupting peace and instigating communal feelings with regard to the issue of putting up stalls outside Mangaladevi Temple during Navaratri celebrations.
Hindu outfits including VHP had called for restricting Muslims from putting up stalls during the Navaratri at the shrine. As this had resulted in a controversy, the district administration had intervened and had ensured that even non-Hindus were allowed to put up stalls. Following this Sharan Pumpwell had ensured that Bhagavadwaj was put up atop all stalls of Hindus and had also issued statement that Hindus must purchase from stalls put up by Hindus.
Following this, Sharan was accused of disrupting harmony and has been booked under IPC Sections 153A and 34.
