Mangalore, Feb 19, 2012: A ritual called Urulu Seve, in which devotees roll on the ground, was held on the premises of Kudroli Shri Gokarnatheshwara Temple, on Feb 19 Sunday as part of Shivarathi as well as the centenary of the temple.
Senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary was also one of the numerous devotees who participated in this ritual. A rathotsava was also held on this occasion.

Poojary had earlier promised devotees that they will be given the opportunity to perform Urulu Seve during Shivarathri.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that he had invited a number of devotees to practice Urulu Seve. He also clarified that Urulu Seve is quite different from the controversial Made Snana. While Made Snana requires lower caste devotees to roll on banana leaf plates discarded after meals by Brahmins, Urulu Seve is performed on a clean floor, he said.
