Uppinangady, July 2, 2026: A house belonging to Adam, a resident of Matha, was severely damaged after a fire broke out unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, destroying household belongings worth several lakhs of rupees. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
The blaze completely gutted a television, electrical appliances, cupboards, clothing, important documents, and the house’s electrical wiring. The total loss is estimated to exceed Rs 3 lakh.
At the time of the incident, the homeowner, Adam, had taken his wife to Uppinangady to purchase medicines, and their daughter had accompanied them. Only their grandchildren, who had just returned home from school, were inside the house.
Noticing smoke and flames inside the house, the children immediately alerted neighbours. Local residents rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control. However, by then, most of the household belongings had already been destroyed.
Officials from MESCOM visited the scene and conducted an inspection. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
