Puttur, Sep 21, 2013 : A student of the Uppinangady Government First Grade College who had once earlier sparked a row by pulling the hair of a female student in the college, has once again resorted to his old trait by harassing another student.
He was even beaten up in public on September 20 for his folly.
If in the first instance the student named Ranjith had pulled the hair of a girl of a minority community, in the latest case, he had targeted a student of own his community.
Some time back, Ranjith had created trouble in his college after the incident of pulling the hair of a Muslim girl. Following a police complaint he was booked under POTA. Consequent upon this, some organizations had staged a protest alleging that the police had booked an innocent. The incident had also taken political overtones.
Ranjith who was recently released on bail had remained at home instead of going to college. On coming to know about this, the local MLA Shakuntala Shetty had visited his house and had advised him to rejoin his college.
But within three weeks of returning to the college, he had begun his old traits and had reportedly begun to send obscene messages to a student of his own community. The girl had complained to her parents about this. It is said on Friday, he once again telephoned her and had asked her to come near a hotel at Uppinangady. Her family members rushed to the place and on seeing Ranjith waiting for the girl, thrashed him in public and handed him over to the police.
As the girl did not lodge a complaint, the police later released Ranjith after duly warning him.
