Uppinangady, July 17, 2025: A massive landslide occurred on Thursday morning at Mannagundi in Kaukraadi village near here, causing soil to spill onto the Mangaluru–Bengaluru National Highway and bringing vehicular movement to a halt.
The hill was cut through for the ongoing four-lane highway construction. Due to direct excavation and continuous rains, the loosened soil has repeatedly collapsed. This location has already witnessed four to five landslides during this heavy monsoon season.
Following heavy rainfall last night, yet another landslide occurred early this morning, depositing a large amount of soil onto the four-lane road. As a result, vehicles are lined up on both sides of the highway.
Clearing Operations Begin:
Efforts are underway to remove the debris from the road. However, the soil continues to slide, and clearing operations are expected to continue until noon. The police department has urged motorists to use alternative routes for the time being.
