Uppinangady: Five seriously injured as lorry rams car

Uppinangady, Jun 2, 2026: Five people were seriously injured after a lorry collided with a car at Kootelu near Uppinangady on Monday night.

According to reports, members of a family from Nakre in Karkala were travelling to Subrahmanya on a pilgrimage in a WagonR car. When the vehicle was passing through Kootelu near Uppinangady, a lorry carrying LPG cylinders rammed into the car.

The impact left the car badly mangled and seriously injured all five occupants. The injured have been identified as Deepak (45), the driver, and fellow passengers Gururaj (46), Dhanush (15), Bharathi (48) and Geetha (55). All of them were shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru, where their condition is reported to be critical.

The lorry driver, Damodar, escaped without injuries.

Local residents, including U.T. Fayaz, Vidyadhar Jain and Zakaria, rushed to the scene and helped rescue the injured from the crushed vehicle before arranging for their transportation to the hospital.

A case has been registered at the Puttur Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
