
Uppinangady, Apr 29, 2026: A 74-year-old woman, Girija, died and three others were seriously injured after a Tufan vehicle rammed into an auto rickshaw parked by the roadside at Kolpe in Konalu village.
According to reports, the Tufan vehicle was being driven rashly and negligently from the Uppinangady side when it crashed into the rear of the auto rickshaw that had been parked along the highway.
The auto rickshaw was carrying Deepak S., a resident of Surulimule House, Mangalapadavu, Vitla Kasaba in Bantwal taluk, along with his uncle Somappa and aunt Girija. Somappa’s son Tilak Raj was driving the rickshaw.
They had traveled from Vitla and reached the Kolpe area. When they stopped the rickshaw by the roadside near a petrol pump to drink water, the speeding Tufan vehicle hit them from behind.
Due to the impact, the auto rickshaw fell into a roadside drain, while Deepak and driver Tilak Raj were thrown out of the vehicle.
Deepak suffered injuries to his left shoulder and right wrist, while Tilak Raj sustained minor injuries. Somappa sustained serious injuries to his nose, the back of his head, and other parts of his body.
Girija suffered severe injuries to her head, chest, and several other parts of her body. She was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
A case has been registered at the Uppinangady Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
