Ullal: Worker dies as hill collapses during retaining wall construction

Ullal, December 16, 2025: A worker was killed on the spot after being buried under soil when a hill collapsed during retaining wall construction work at Sevantiguttu near Kallapu on Tuesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Balappa, a native of Hanumakatte in Hungund taluk of Bagalkote district.

The incident occurred while a retaining wall was being constructed behind a house. On Tuesday, migrant workers Balappa, Hanumanta, Bhimappa, and Shivu were engaged in the work using a JCB machine. During the work, soil from the elevated hill behind the house suddenly collapsed, burying workers Balappa, Hanumanta, and Bhimappa.

Hanumanta and Bhimappa narrowly escaped with minor injuries. However, Balappa sustained serious injuries after being trapped under the soil. Although locals made strenuous efforts to rescue him, he succumbed to his injuries at the spot.
