The boat had left for fishing on Saturday evening. Around 6.30 pm, it ran into trouble in the middle of the sea. Fishermen aboard another fishing boat, Bismillah, rushed to the spot and rescued all five crew members from the distressed vessel, according to official sources.

The four-year-old trawler later sank despite attempts to tow it back to shore using another boat. The incident is said to have caused substantial financial losses to the owner.

A complaint has been lodged at the Ullal Police Station by Mohammed Arafath, a resident of Azad Nagar in Ullal and brother-in-law of the boat’s owner, Ibrahim Khalil.
