Ullal: Fish truck rams school bus on NH-66 at Kapikad, seven students injured

Mangaluru, Feb 16, 2026: Seven students sustained minor injuries after a fish-laden canter truck rammed into the rear of a school bus at Kapikad on National Highway 66 at around 8:00 am on Monday.

The bus, belonging to Sharada Niketan Public School & College, was picking up students from the roadside at Kapikadu and heading towards Talapady when the accident occurred. A canter truck transporting fish from Goa to Kerala reportedly crashed into the bus from behind with considerable force.

Preliminary reports suggest that the truck driver, identified as Sanjeev, a native of Kundapur, may have dozed off at the wheel, leading to the collision.

Four boys and three girls travelling in the bus were injured in the incident. The injured students were given treatment at Netaji Ellappa Hospital. One student who suffered a leg injury was later admitted to K S Hegde Hospital for further treatment.

There were a total of 24 students on board the bus at the time of the accident. Further investigation is underway.
