Ullal, Aug 7, 2026: An eviction drive to remove unauthorised shops and structures was launched at Kallapu near Thokkottu on Thursday to facilitate the construction of the long-pending service road along National Highway 66.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had issued notices three times to several shops, including a supermarket at Kallapu Junction and a private roadside fish market. As the establishments were not removed despite the notices, NHAI officials and police personnel arrived at the spot and began the eviction drive.

During the operation, traders requested a week’s time to vacate the premises. However, NHAI General Manager (Technical) and Project Director Abdulla Javed Azmi said the action had become necessary as repeated notices had not been acted upon.

Following the traders’ request, the officials granted them two hours to clear the establishments.

The shop owners subsequently began voluntarily removing their shops. Officials said similar drives would continue in the coming days against unauthorised structures obstructing the NH-66 service road project.
